The Nordonia Hills Branch Library will present an extensive lineup of summer programming throughout July, featuring activities for every age group from babies to adults. The branch, located on Olde Eight Road in Northfield, has scheduled nearly 40 events designed to engage the community during the peak summer months.

Children’s Programming

Young readers can participate in multiple “Paws for Reading” sessions on July 2, July 28, and continuing into August. The program allows children to practice reading skills with certified therapy dogs, with participants welcome to bring their own books or use library materials.

Summer reading events dominate the children’s calendar with weekly Tuesday afternoon programs. Highlights include Bingo on July 1, magic shows by The Alans on July 8, and Jim Kleefeld’s adventure stories and magic on July 22. The month concludes with a kids concert featuring Mr. Jeff on July 29.

Weekly “ArtVentures” sessions every Wednesday at 1 p.m. offer hands-on creative experiences. Programs include digital art instruction with Ohio 4-H educator Imani Scruggs, macramé hanger creation, watercolor zentangles, and sharpie-dyed silk scarves.

Baby and preschool storytimes continue their regular Thursday morning schedule at 10:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., focusing on early literacy development through songs, stories and movement.

Teen Programming

Teenagers can join monthly Dungeons & Dragons sessions on July 14, with the library providing snacks and participants bringing their own dice. The month wraps up with End of Summer Karaoke on July 31 for teens and tweens to celebrate the season’s close.

Most ArtVentures programs welcome teen participation alongside younger children, providing creative outlets for middle and high school students.

Adult Programming

Adult learners have access to diverse educational opportunities throughout the month. The popular Socrates Cafe discussion group meets July 9 for philosophical exploration and current events conversation.

Three book discussion groups serve different reading preferences. Coffee and Conversation Book Discussion on July 10 will examine “Three Days in June” by Anne Tyler. Casual Reads meets July 14 to discuss “Cassandra in Reverse” by Holly Smale. Mystery Lovers gather July 30 to discuss “A Curious Beginning” by Deanna Raybourn.

The Writers’ Guild welcomes aspiring authors July 16 for manuscript critiques and writing process discussions.

Practical programming includes Native Plant Gardening 101 on July 8 with a Summit Metro Parks naturalist, and a July 26 barbecue techniques workshop featuring spice and marinade instruction with food samples.

Chair Yoga sessions July 12 provide accessible exercise options for adults with varying mobility levels.

Technology assistance remains available July 8 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for device setup, software support and internet training on a first-come, first-served basis.

Gaming and Recreation

Board game enthusiasts can participate in Nordonia Hills Game Time on July 19, featuring chess, role-playing games, trading cards and European-style board games from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Messy Monday programming on July 21 offers “Exploding Paint” activities for children and tweens, while Thrilling Thursdays on July 24 features mosaic sticker art.

Most children’s summer reading programs distribute tickets 30 minutes before start time on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Many programs require advance registration through the library’s website or by calling 330-467-8595.
