The Memorial Day parade is scheduled for Monday May 26th at 10:00 AM, with our annual memorial ceremony following the parade at Northfield Macedonia cemetery. All are encouraged to join in this event.
The Memorial Day parade is a somber event to memorialize and honor our Veterans that have paid the ultimate sacrifice so that you and I can enjoy the freedoms that we exercise daily. With that being said, there will be no sirens or candy permitted in the parade. When our beloved American flag passes you, please stand, remove your hat, place your hand over your heart and remember those who are no longer with us. Remember the loss that was felt at home by their family and the pain their loved ones endured when they could no longer embrace them. Remember their comrades who fought bravely beside them and the friendship, brotherhood and sisterhood that is incomparable to any other. For this is why we have Memorial Day, to remember, to honor and to never forget.
Like in years past, at the end of the parade procession, the Emergency Assistance Center will be accepting donations. This amazing organization provides support to those in need that reside in our local community. Encouraged donation items can be found on their website www.theemergencyassistancecenter.org or via their Facebook page.
This year, we also would like to bring back the rich agricultural history of our community and invite those with farming equipment to join in the procession as well as children with decorated bicycles to join as well. Also, this year we have teamed up Liberty Valley Church as a pickup location for band members, those who walk and anyone else who needs to be picked up instead of walking back or congesting local businesses attempting to pick folks up.
All those interested in joining in the parade or have questions, please contact Clint Ulrich via email at caulrich2@gmail.com or contact the VFW at 330-467-9722. We ask that all those participating in the parade are at St. Barnabas parking lot by 9:00 AM so our team can get you into position.
Following the ceremonies, we will be hosting our annual open house located at 8584 Olde Eight Rd which will be open to the public. The American Legion will also be hosting a ceremony at the Nordonia Hills Veteran’s Memorial Park at 1:30 PM Please join us as we remember and honor our fallen.
