MACEDONIA, Ohio – Registration is officially open for the annual Nordonia Hills Safety Town summer program, providing incoming kindergarteners with essential safety skills before they enter the classroom this fall. Sponsored locally by the Longwood Branch YMCA and the Rotary Club, the week-long educational camp will take place from June 22 through June 26 at Rushwood Elementary School, located at 8200 Rushwood Lane in Sagamore Hills. Families can sign up their children for one of three scheduled daily sessions to accommodate busy summer routines.
Through interactive and age-appropriate instruction, Nordonia Hills Safety Town aims to build early confidence in young students while teaching them how to navigate daily school environments and community settings securely. Organizers emphasize that early safety literacy prevents preventable childhood accidents, giving five- and six-year-olds the exact vocabulary and visual cues they need to stay safe.
Comprehensive Safety Curriculum and Daily Sessions
The curriculum for Nordonia Hills Safety Town focuses heavily on high-stakes, real-world situations that young children encounter as they transition into public schooling. Experienced educators use interactive tools to cover vital topics including stranger danger, playground safety, school bus safety protocols, fire prevention, gun safety awareness, and identifying environmental toxins.
To serve as many local families as possible, the program offers three distinct daily session times throughout the week:
-
Morning Session: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
-
Afternoon Session: 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
-
Evening Session: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Registration Details and Deadlines
The registration fee for the 2026 session is $50 per student, and local organizers note that space is limited for each designated time slot. The firm deadline to submit registration forms and secure a roster spot for an incoming student is June 8, 2026. Parents are encouraged to sign up early, as specific time slots historically reach maximum capacity quickly.
