Nordonia K-12 Mask Mandated Reinstated through MLK Day

Dear Nordonia Families,

As you have undoubtedly seen by the daily emails, we have reached the point of ridiculousness. The positive COVID-19 cases are flooding in every day, with December primed to be our highest COVID month since the pandemic began. We are on pace to shatter our November count, which was twice any other month since COVID began. Our principals are doing nothing but contact tracing to ensure the “mask to stay” protocols are being followed.

Summit County Public Health told superintendents yesterday that their model shows we are in the early stages of a six-week spike.

I was hoping to make it to winter break, but I do not want this to go on any longer. I am going to reinstate a mask mandate for all buildings (students, staff, and visitors during school hours only) effective tomorrow and running through MLK Day, at which point I will reevaluate. One more layer of protection will not hurt us. That should get us through the projected spike and whatever the holiday get-togethers bring.

Many of you have expressed concern about the number of emails you get. We are required to inform families of the details of all positive cases in their buildings. However, to give your inbox a break, I have asked Mr. Strickland to send one email per building daily detailing all the cases. With permission from SCPH, I have also asked him only to do a weekly summary over Winter Break.

As always, thanks for your continued support of the Nordonia Schools, and Go Knights!

Sincerely,

Joe Clark, Ph.D.

Superintendent
