The Nordonia Knights boys basketball team couldn’t complete the sweep of a good Stow team tonight. After winning at home in December, the Knights lost in Stow 56-33. Junior Luke Alders led all Nordonia scorers with 6 points while Sophomore Drew Petros and Senior Justin Post had 5 each. Stow was led by Senior Nathan Bower-Malone who had 15 points.
For the first time this year, Nordonia’s starting lineup had no Seniors. With a 4-10 record to start the season, the coaches may have thought it was time to mix things up a bit. Stow jumped out to a 12-3 lead thanks to 5 turnovers by the Knights. Nordonia Head Coach Kirk Culler called time-out to settle his players with 1:47 left in the 1st quarter. Unfortunately the offensive woes continued. The Knights scored 5 points in the 1st quarter and only 3 points in the 2nd.
The Nordonia offense picked up in the 3rd quarter after being down 21-8 at the half. Jordan Adams had nice assists to Luke Alders when driving down the lane on 2 straight possessions. The Knights’ defense hurt them though, giving up 23 points in the quarter. 7 different Bulldogs scored in the quarter. With 3:42 left in the game, down 49-26, Coach Culler brought in the end of the bench. The 5 JV players scored 7 points, led by Sophomore Mitch Ehrman’s 4, to end the game on a good note. Nordonia’s next game is Friday night at home against Twinsburg.
Stow’s JV boys basketball team beat Nordonia 52-26 in front of family, friends and a few students at Stow’s James G. Tyree Gymnasium. The Bulldog’s were led by Sophomore guard Ethan Fretag’s 20 points. Neither team started well at the offensive side of the court, with Stow opening the scoring with 2:34 left in the 1st quarter. Point Guard Justin Bell broke the Knights’ scoring drought with a nice layup with 1:10 left in the first.
Stow opened the 2nd quarter with a 9-0 run and never gave up the double digit lead. The Bulldogs lead 8-5 after one quarter and 25-10 at the half. Freshman Jordan Jones started the 2nd half with a quick steal for Nordonia. He made both free throws after being fouled on a layup attempt but the Knights couldn’t sustain the intensity. Nordonia only scores 5 points in each of the first 3 quarters and were down 42-15 after the 3rd quarter. The Knights were led by Sophomore Ben Lowrey’s 7 points, all coming in the 4th quarter.
The Nordonia Freshmen played just before the JV game and lost 53-35 after leading at the half.
