The Nordonia Knights girls flag football team is off to a 2–0 start this season

Their first game came against Stow, where they secured a 33–13 victory over the first-year program. With the Knights’ regular starting quarterback unavailable due to another sport, freshman Nadia Adams rose to the occasion, stepping in and effectively guiding the offense. The first two drives ended in touchdown passes to fellow freshman Landry Holtz.

Later in the game, freshman Khai Cole added to the scoring, taking a handoff and running it into the end zone. Cole also had several strong runs, along with junior newcomer Alex Giovinozzo.

While first-year players led the charge offensively, the defense was anchored by experience. Returning for the Knights are sophomores Kenzie Ekis and Rylee Lowery, junior Olivia Beery, and senior Avery Holtz. With multiple flag pulls throughout the game, the group held Stow’s offense to just 13 points. Adding to Nordonia’s scoring were pick-sixes by Ekis and Cole in the second half.

On Sunday, the Knights faced an experienced Bedford team. On the second play of the game, senior Haydn Paul (QB/S) recorded her first interception of the season. Although the offense was unable to capitalize immediately, the defense forced a turnover on downs led by some aggressive flag pulls by Beery.

The next two offensive series resulted in touchdowns, as Paul connected with freshman wide receiver Ella Spadaro on deep passes. On her second touchdown, Spadaro battled for the ball in the air and came down with an impressive reception.

On the first play of the second half, Paul threw a quick slant to Landry Holtz, who took it the length of the field for a touchdown. Paul later added her second interception of the game on defense and followed it up by connecting with Holtz in the end zone, throwing her fourth touchdown pass.

On the next two defensive series, Khai Cole recorded two interceptions, the second being a pick-six that sealed a 32–0 victory for the Knights.

After a bye this weekend, the Knights will next face CVCA at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 10 at Bedford High School.
