On September 28, the Nordonia Hills City School District Board of Education voted unanimously to allow Option 1 students to return to school five days per week whenever Summit County is in the Yellow (Level 1) or Orange (Level 2) zones on the Ohio Public Health Advisory System (OPHAS). This change will take effect Monday, October 5.
As you may know, every Thursday the Ohio Public Health Advisory System (OPHAS) is updated to reveal each county’s color code. Each week I will monitor the update, and if Summit County is Yellow or Orange, students will be in school five days per week the following week. If the code is Red, we will return to the hybrid (two days per week) model, and if the code is Purple we will move entirely to remote learning. Clearly this is a fluid system, and things can change from week to week. The best way we can stay in the Yellow/Orange zone is to wear our masks, stay socially distant, and wash our hands vigorously and often.
Option 1 families who are not comfortable with the five day per week plan may request their children be placed in Option 2 by contacting their building principal. Please note that selecting Option 2 is a commitment through at least the first semester of school.
Masks for all students and staff will still be required except for those with documented medical conditions preventing them from safely wearing masks. Please remember that Friday, October 9 is NEOEA Day, and no students will be in attendance as part of the regular school calendar, no matter what color code we are in.
Families of all-day kindergarten students should remember that tuition will be charged any time we are operating on a five day per week model. Families of part-time kindergarten students should remember that their children will be attending half-days when we are operating on a five day per week model.
To repeat, if Summit County remains in the Yellow or Orange zone through Thursday’s OPHAS update, Option 1 students will return to school five days a week on Monday, October 5.
Thanks for your continued support of the Nordonia Schools, and Go Knights!
