Nordonia Varsity Knights Fall To University School Varsity Preppers After Surrendering Big Second Inning

University School Varsity Preppers defeated Nordonia Varsity Knights 8-1 on Saturday thanks in part to five runs in the second inning.

University School Varsity Preppers got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Cameron Ryan hit into a double play, but one run scored, James Bucci singled, scoring one run, Aaron Moss doubled, scoring two runs, and Deacon Nelson tripled, scoring one run.

University School Varsity Preppers extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Cayden Zelenak and Bryce Fielding.

Crew Bellan earned the win for University School Varsity Preppers. The starter surrendered two hits and one run over six innings, striking out six and walking two. Ben Chesser took the loss for Nordonia Varsity Knights. The starter went two innings, surrendering five runs (two earned) on five hits, striking out one and walking three.

Justin Smigel led Nordonia Varsity Knights with one run batted in. The left-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Owen Smotek and Smigel each collected one hit for Nordonia Varsity Knights. Nordonia Varsity Knights turned one double play in the game.

University School Varsity Preppers accumulated 10 hits in the game. Zelenak, University School Varsity Preppers’s number seven hitter, led the team with three hits in three at-bats. Fielding and Moss were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for University School Varsity Preppers. Nelson led University School Varsity Preppers with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. University School Varsity Preppers stole five bases in the game.
