Despite leading by as many as five runs, Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights fell to Brecksville-Broadview Heights 10-7 on Wednesday.
Larken Koran collected three hits in four at bats in the loss. Koran hit a solo home run to center field in the fourth inning, doubled in the second inning, and singled in the first inning.
Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Brooke Becker singled to center field, Haydn Paul grounded into a fielder’s choice, Gracie Smith singled down the right field line, and Morgan Ritchie walked, each scoring one run.
Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights added one run in the second. Maddie Nyce scored after tagging up, making the score 5-0.
Brecksville-Broadview Heights captured the lead, 7-5, in the top of the fourth when an error scored two runs, and an error scored one run.
Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights scored one run in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run to center field by Koran on the seventh pitch of the at-bat.
R. Weber earned the win for Brecksville-Broadview Heights. The hurler gave up six hits and two runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking two. Haylie Lambes took the loss for Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights. The righty went seven innings, surrendering 10 runs (five earned) on 15 hits, striking out none and walking five. T. Cozza started in the circle for Brecksville-Broadview Heights. The pitcher surrendered six hits and five runs over one and one-third innings, striking out two and walking two.
Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights accumulated 12 hits in the game. Paul, Koran, Kirra Smeal, Laura Garey, Smith, and Becker each drove in one run for Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights. Nyce collected two hits for Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights in four at bats. Paul stole three bases. Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights stole five bases in the game. Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights turned two double plays in the game.
Brecksville-Broadview Heights amassed 15 hits in the game. C. La, G. Dasenbrook, and C. Bibbo each collected three hits for Brecksville-Broadview Heights. La and Weber were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for Brecksville-Broadview Heights. Weber paced Brecksville-Broadview Heights with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating five walks for the game. Brecksville-Broadview Heights turned one double play in the game. Brecksville-Broadview Heights didn’t commit a single error in the field. G. Rowan had the most chances in the field with nine.
