Bats were blistered on Monday, but Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights couldn’t quite get the job done against Twinsburg and lost 13-10. Twinsburg collected 12 hits, while Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights had 12.
Kirra Smeal collected four hits in five at bats in the loss. Smeal doubled in the first inning, singled in the fifth inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the fourth inning.
Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights got on the board in the first inning after Brooke Becker doubled, scoring one run.
Twinsburg flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 5-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to right field by Mackenzie Sweeney that drove in two.
Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights scored one run in the top of the second on a solo home run to center field by Maddie Nyce.
Twinsburg added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Kylie Eder singled to left field, Allie Gurnak doubled to right field, and Marlena Riley grounded out, each scoring one run.
Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights captured the lead, 9-8, in the top of the fifth when Smeal singled, scoring one run, Haydn Paul tripled, scoring two runs, and Becker was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.
Twinsburg captured the lead, 10-9, in the bottom of the fifth after Gurnak doubled to left field, and Riley singled to left field, each scoring one run.
Haylie Lambes laid down a sacrifice bunt, which helped Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights tie the game at 10 in the top of the sixth.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Twinsburg went back into the lead after Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights committed an error, Riley Velican doubled to center field, and Eder singled down the right field line, each scoring one run.
Ava Basel earned the win for Twinsburg. The hurler gave up five hits and five runs (four earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking none. Lambes took the loss for Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights. The hurler went one and one-third innings, giving up three runs (zero earned) on two hits, striking out two and walking one. Smeal started the game for Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights. The right-handed pitcher allowed 10 hits and 10 runs (eight earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking two. Tamaya Peiris stepped in the circle first for Twinsburg. The pitcher allowed five hits and three runs over two innings, striking out one and walking none.
Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights amassed 12 hits in the game. Nyce went 1-for-4 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Paul and Becker each collected multiple hits for Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights.
Twinsburg accumulated 12 hits in the game. Gurnak, Twinsburg’s number seven hitter, led the team with three hits in three at-bats. Riley and Gurnak were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for Twinsburg. Eder and Velican each collected multiple hits for Twinsburg.
Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights will travel to Ellet for their next game on Tuesday.
