MACEDONIA, Ohio – Nordonia wrestling is gearing up for a huge weekend as the Knights prepare to host back-to-back varsity tournaments, and the program is asking the community for help to make it all run smoothly.
This upcoming weekend, Nordonia will host a boys varsity tournament on Saturday followed by a girls tournament on Sunday. Seventeen boys teams are expected to compete on Saturday, and approximately 50 girls teams are scheduled for Sunday, making it one of the larger girls wrestling events in the area.
Beyond the competition on the mat, running tournaments of this size requires a small army of volunteers and steady community support. Nordonia wrestling families are reaching out for both helpers and donations to ensure that visiting teams, officials, and workers are taken care of throughout the weekend.
Help Needed in Hospitality Room
One of the biggest needs is staffing and stocking the hospitality room on both days. The hospitality room is a key part of any well-run wrestling tournament, providing food and drinks for workers, coaches, and officials so they can stay focused on the competition.
Organizers say they are looking for:
- Workers for the hospitality room on Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers would help set up, organize, and replenish food and drinks, as well as keep the room running smoothly throughout the day.
- Donations of food and beverages. Items needed include:
- Drinks such as water, coffee, pop, and Gatorade
- Morning items like bagels, pastries, donuts, and fruit
- Afternoon options such as crockpot meals (soup, meatballs, BBQ chicken, pasta), sandwiches, and pizza
Any amount of help—whether a case of water, a crockpot dish, or a few hours in the hospitality room—will make a difference.
Mat Table Volunteers Also Needed
In addition to hospitality help, the program is also seeking people willing to work at mat tables. These volunteers assist with tasks such as timekeeping, scorekeeping, and paperwork at each mat.
Nordonia wrestlers who are not competing, along with some middle school wrestlers, will be helping at the tables, but additional volunteers would allow for breaks and smoother coverage all day. Those who are comfortable learning basic table duties—or who have helped at past events—are especially encouraged to step up.
The Nordonia wrestling community expressed deep appreciation for any support, whether it comes in the form of time, food, or simply spreading the word.
