Owner Details Major Improvements Made Since Takeover
The new owners of the Northfield Center laundromat have completed several major renovation milestones since taking over the facility five weeks ago, with the most significant being a complete floor replacement that took three days to complete.
Owner David Iafelice detailed the extensive improvements made to the longtime wash and dry facility during a recent walkthrough of the renovated space.
The flooring project represents the largest single improvement to the facility. Workers also completed installation of base plates above all dryers, addressing structural issues that had existed for years.
Equipment consolidation continues as planned, with problematic washers removed and repositioned. A hole behind one washing machine near the washers has been filled, and that unit is now properly mounted on its platform awaiting final connections including a drain valve and tubing.
Three washers that previously sat in the middle of the floor have been relocated. Two were moved to the owners’ Valley View location, while the larger unit underwent testing and is now operational. The facility now features three T950 washers in a row, capable of handling six loads of laundry simultaneously.
Storage and workspace improvements include clearing the back office area of unusable equipment and materials. The owners plan to install shelving to better organize floor space and parts inventory, making it easier for their technician Bill Miley to locate needed components.
Additional facility improvements include removal of damaged ceiling tiles, elimination of moldy wall sections, and plumbing upgrades that bring the system up to current standards.
The next major upgrade will be installation of the Dexter payment system, which will allow customers to operate larger capacity machines using a smartphone app instead of quarters. The system will also enable customers to monitor wash times remotely and check machine availability before arriving at the facility.
As previously mentioned, the facility is more secure now with security cameras installed for monitoring the 24-hour operation.
The laundromat is located at 9431 Olde 8 Rd in Northfield Center and maintains 24/7 operating hours.
