When Jim Filisky, president of NHAA (Nordonia Hills Athletic Association) was little, he played baseball at Smith Park in Northfield Village. Fast forward many years and now he was able to bring back baseball to Smith Park! They have not been able to use the field in 10 years. The grass that was there had to be removed, the dirt was brought in and leveled out. Jim worked with Mayor Jesse Nehez and Nick, council to make it happen. There was a lot of time and effort put in and now the kids and the families can enjoy.
On June 15th, the very first game in ten years was played. Northfield Village Council President Nick Magistrelli threw in the first pitch!
Jim thanked council for working with him. He said “I wanted to say thank you for the opportunity to restore the field. Working with us and the local community to promote youth sports is greatly appreciated.”
Nick said “This is the best sport in the world. This is camaraderie, this is friendship, this brings families together, and this brings fathers together and coaches.”
