Northfield Village police responded to seven incidents between July 29 and August 3, according to records obtained from the Northfield Village Police Department. The calls ranged from a drunken driving arrest on Houghton Road to a break in investigation at a Ledge Road business.
DUI Arrest On Houghton Road
Officer Wilson stopped a silver Mitsubishi around 12:36 a.m. on July 29 after the driver turned from Northfield Road onto Houghton Road without signaling. The officer detected the odor of alcohol and other signs of impairment, then conducted field sobriety tests. Investigators arrested the driver on a charge of operating a vehicle under the influence, though he refused to provide a breath sample. His vehicle was towed, and he was released with a court date in Stow on charges including OVI, BAC refusal and failure to use a turn signal.
Injured Groundhog Reported On Coventry Drive
A caller reported around 10 a.m. on July 29 that a dog had injured a groundhog in the 9100 block of Coventry Drive. Officers arrived, determined the animal was suffering and euthanized it. No further action was needed, and the case was closed.
Warrant Leads To Traffic Stop Near State Route 8
An automated license plate reader alerted officers around 4:22 p.m. on July 29 to a vehicle connected to an outstanding warrant on State Route 8 southbound near Sunset. Officers stopped the vehicle and found the registered owner was the driver and had an active warrant out of Fairview Park. The case required no further action from Northfield Village police.
Disturbance Call On Rosewood Avenue
Officers were called to a home on Rosewood Avenue around noon on July 30 after a disturbance between a mother and her adult daughter. The mother, who owns the home, said her daughter had left before officers arrived and asked that she be barred from the property. Officers located the daughter nearby and told her she could not return to the Rosewood Avenue address. She told officers she felt suicidal, which prompted a fire department evaluation, though she declined transport to a hospital and said she did not intend to harm herself or anyone else. The incident was documented only, and no charges were filed.
Theft Reported At Northfield Road Sunoco
Officers responded to a gas station on Northfield Road around 8 a.m. on August 1 after a man was seen stealing food items and leaving on foot. He was located a short distance away at a McDonalds and cited for theft. Police gave him a courtesy ride to a bus stop in Bedford.
Vehicle Lockout On Lowrie Boulevard
Officer Wilson helped a driver locked out of a vehicle on Lowrie Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. on August 2. The vehicle’s driver side latch broke because it was dry rotted, but officers were able to gain entry. The incident was documented, and no further action was required.
Break In Investigated At Ledge Road Business
Officers investigated a report of a break in at a business in the 100 block of Ledge Road around 6:30 a.m. on August 3. An employee told police a window had been knocked open and the lights were on inside. Investigators determined the window was faulty and had fallen in on its own. Nothing was taken, and the case was closed.
