Northfield Village Police Reports: Criminal Mischief, OVI and Theft Cases

Local law enforcement responds to vandalism at Smith Park, impaired driving incident and multiple theft reports

Criminal Mischief

October 15 Officers responded to Smith Park on Houghton Road after receiving reports of juveniles damaging park equipment. Upon arrival, approximately 10 juveniles were found gathered in the pavilion area. A park table showed visible damage, and the yellow merry-go-round was also vandalized. Investigation revealed five juveniles were responsible for the damage. One adult and four juveniles were charged with Criminal Mischief, a third-degree misdemeanor.

October 17 A juvenile was observed trespassing at Smith Park on Houghton Road around 6:30 p.m. The juvenile was escorted home and their father was notified. Charges will be filed through Summit County Juvenile Court for criminal trespass.

OVI

October 17 Around 1:48 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a grey Hyundai Sonata on Northfield Road after observing a non-functioning driver-side headlight and rear license plate light. During the stop, signs of impairment were detected. The driver refused field sobriety testing and was arrested for OVI. At the police department, the driver refused to submit to a breath test. Citations were issued for OVI, BAC Refusal (with a prior within 20 years), and Two Headlights Required. The driver was released with a Stow Court date.

Theft

October 18 Officers were dispatched to MGM Casino on Northfield Road in reference to a voucher theft that occurred two days prior. An investigation was initiated.

In a separate incident later that day, officers responded to another theft report at MGM Casino. A female employee’s phone was taken from the locker room. MGM security was notified and surveillance footage was being reviewed. The victim later recovered her phone from the individual who took it, and the case was closed.

October 21 Officers responded to Circle K on Northfield Road to investigate a theft by an employee discovered during audit functions. The theft involved various transactions, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Other Incidents

October 18 Officers responded to Monroe Drive for a report of an assault. Photos were taken of the victim’s injuries, and Northfield Fire Department evaluated the victim. A suspect was identified, but no charges have been filed at this time.

October 19 Officers responded to Northfield Village Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation on Northfield Road for a deceased 88-year-old male around 9:37 p.m. After consulting with the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office, the body was released to the family.

October 20 Patrol units conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Northfield Road. Following a field assessment, the matter remains under investigation.
