The after effects of the pandemic has people still on edge. And residents of the Village of Northfield are no exception.
During the June 9 Council meeting the concerns of several villagers were voiced by Councilor Gary Vojtush.
Several community members have approached Vojtush and asked when “live” meetings would begin again. The residents were upset that they could not attend meetings or ask questions.
According to Law Director Brad Bryan, the administration is awaiting the State Legislators approval, permitting live meetings to resume. Bryan said he believed lawmakers would resolve the issue before its summer break. And at least one councilor said she had become comfortable with the flexibility of the online meetings.
Councilor Jenn Domzalski told council that she hopes Council can hold some online meetings in the future. “It would be ideal to have one online meeting and one in-person meeting a month,” she said. Mayor Jesse Nehez asked why the folks complaining were not utilizing the online meeting opportunity.
“They don’t have computers or smartphones,” Vojtush said.
Nehez requested the names of those complaining. He added that the folks complaining were also afraid of some type of retaliation from council. Nehez assured Vojtush there would be no retaliation by any administration member.
