It’s October, the month we celebrate ghosts and goblins, witches and warlocks, black cats and spooky spirits. And, of course, tricks and/or treats. Lots of treats. Candy-type treats.
Well, around Longwood Manor, the claim has been made that a man and a woman have been seen looking out the windows on the upper floors at different times.
When the Manor house was supposedly empty.
Last July 21st, the University Heights Symphonic Band was performing a concert outside of the house, and one of the players claimed a woman was looking out the 3rd floor window just before the concert.
Mrs. Long enjoying the music?
People have claimed they saw a man looking out the window. It was a known fact when Colonel Long was alive that he watched farm activities from an upstairs window.
And, this Writer was sitting in the 1st-floor library one day checking his mobile phone messages when someone (or something) tapped my right shoulder.
I am not making this up.
Ghost hunts had been conducted at Longwood Manor in past years.
Results… inconclusive.
Well, if the Longs are still inhabiting their homestead, we can only hope that they are pleased with the progress being made in restoring the house and gardens to their former glory.
And now, some real information about an upcoming event.
Last year’s Haunted Manor was such a success that it will be repeated this year as the “Haunted Hallow”. The event will cover not only activity in the Manor house but on the grounds between the house and the barns. The event will take place on Saturday, October 15th between the hours of 2:30pm to 5:00pm. Be warned, though, we do know that a ghost has been spotted coming out of the fireplace, and a skeleton has been seen sitting in a chair. Really.
And the LMHS personnel are still running the Concessions stand near the Manor entrance during the sports activities on Saturdays. Since the weather is turning chilly you’ll find coffee, tea, and hot chocolate added to the drinks list. Cold drinks, candy, chips, and fresh-popped popcorn will still be available.
