November Book Review: Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur

730

The Instapoetry collection of prose and poetry Milk and Honey has captivated the minds of millions of individuals across the globe. The book of Canadian-based poems was published by Andrews McMeel Publishing and has been on the NYT Bestseller list for 165 weeks ending its streak in June 2020.  This book is centered around violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity. Anyone that has been through any type of tragedy can relate to a variety of paragraphs in this piece. The book is split up into 4 sections: “The Hurting”, “The Loving”, “The Breaking” and “The Healing” . Here are my favorite poems from each section:

The Hurting

The Idea that we are

So capable of love

But still, choose to be toxic

Page 23

The Loving

I’d be lying if I said

You make me speechless

The truth is you make my

Tongue so weak it forgets

What language it speaks in

Page 61

The Breaking

You whisper

I love you

What you mean is

I don’t want you to leave

Page 92

The Healing

Stay strong through your pain

Grow flowers from it

You have helped me

Grow flowers out of mine so

Bloom Beautifully

Dangerously

Loudly

Bloom softly

However you need

Just bloom

The verbiage and flow of each paragraph are so eloquent and beautiful. You won’t be able to put this book down. Milk and Honey is a great book for book clubs and college class discussions. Pick up a copy at Walmart of Amazon
