ALEX F. ADAMS; 79, husband of Patrice (Nee McCarthy) for 39 years. Dear son of the late Julia and Alec Adams of Ronco, PA.; Loving father of Julie and the late Brian Adams; Devoted brother of Agnes Verska (Tom), Arlene Spirnak (Andy), Anna Marie Mansuy (Bob), Annette “Bambi” Frasconi (Ron), Arthur Adams, and the late Andrew Adams; Cherished grandfather of Nicole, Crystal, and Ashley Adams; Dear great-grandfather of Mason and Kelsey. Alex was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in Germany. He was a member of the American Legion Post #309 where he was the past historian. Alex had a 37 year career in the trucking industry where he worked as a proud Teamster member. Alex worked under Teamster President Ron Carey in the 1990’s, and in 1999 was elected President of the Teamster Local 407 in Cleveland where he served for  3 years. He retired from Yellow Freight in 2004, but continued his union activism for many years. He was also a proud member of Teamsters For A Democratic Union (TDU) for over 30 years and served as Cleveland Chapter Chairman, and also served on the TDU steering committee. Alex was also active in local politics and served three terms as the District 1 Councilman for the City of Maple Heights. Shortly after he was elected, Alex was diagnosed with cancer and contemplated resigning, but after urging from former Mayor Jeffrey Lansky decided to stay and represent the citizens of District 1. In 2017 at a September Maple Heights City Council meeting Mayor Annette Blackwell honored Alex as the 2017 Citizen of the year. In 2013, Alex along with other TDU officials started an 8-year grass roots campaign with active and retired Teamster members to protect their pension benefits which were under attack from legislation passed by congress. In 2014, Alex helped start the Northeast Ohio Committee to Protect Pensions, and was also a founding member of the National Committee to Protect Pensions. Alex considered his many years of fighting for pension reform and passage of the Butch Lewis Emergency Pension Plan Relief Act as part of the American Rescue Plan in March 2021 his greatest achievements.
