Obituary: Carlton Wrightson Surplus

Carlton Wrightson Surplus, age 90, most recently of Lakeway, TX passed away peacefully on September 14, 2018 with loving family at his side. Carl was born in Gouldsboro, Pennsylvania, the son of Willard and Olive Surplus.  He leaves behind his two sons, Scott Surplus and his wife Carol of Prosper, Texas and Marc Surplus and his wife Marchelle of Austin, Texas, and grandchildren, Eric Surplus, Amy Cotton and her husband Cory, and Bennett Surplus; he is also survived by his brother Robert Surplus of Richmond, Kentucky.  Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his lovely wife Joyce, and his brother Arthur Surplus. Carl grew up in Gouldsboro, Pennsylvania and lived most of his adult life in Macedonia, Ohio.  In 2014 he moved to Texas to be close to his sons. Carl was a World War II Veteran serving in the United States Navy.  Following his time in service, he graduated from Lehigh University and moved to Ohio where he met Joyce and celebrated 52 years of marriage until her passing in 2007.  Most of Carl’s professional career was in cold storage construction where he was employed by Armstrong World Industries and later he formed his own company called Sco-Mar Inc. as named for his sons.  Carl was also active in various civic organizations including the Rotary and Masons.  He also served for many years on the Macedonia City Council.   In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, music, his Boston Terriers and most of all spending time with his family. Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church of Macedonia at 1280 E. Aurora Road (Rt. 82) on September 21, 2018 at 11:00 with visitation for family and friends starting at 10:00.  Burial will be at the Northfield-Macedonia Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial gifts to the United Methodist Church of Macedonia or your favorite charity.  Arrangements by Ferfolia Funeral Home. 330-467-4500
