Obituary: CATHERINE GRECO O’NEILL

CATHERINE GRECO O’NEILL, 78, of Bedford, Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2020. Married for 58 years, she was the beloved wife of James A. O’Neill; loving mother of Kathleen O’Neill Burda (Michael), Christine O’Neill and Colleen O’Neill (Dana W. Walters); cherished grandmother of Paige, Declan, and Asher (deceased) Walters; daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (nee Corrao) Greco; sister of Mary Sommer (Arthur) and Anthony Greco (Betsy Shackelford); sister-in-law of Eugene O’Neill (Patricia) and Astrida Greco; aunt, cousin, niece and friend to many. Born and raised in Cleveland, Catherine went to St. Cecilia Elementary School and graduated from Hoban Dominican High School in 1960. After high school she worked for Ohio Bell untilshe and Jim got married and had their daughters. Catherine loved her family dearly. She made sure every birthday, holiday and family gathering was memorable, especially when it included a pot of her delicious spaghetti sauce and meatballs. While her daughters were growing up, Catherine volunteered her time and was actively involved in their many activities. She was a room mother, a PTA officer and later, a member of the school board for the Bedford City School District. After her children were all in grade school, Catherine went back to work, first as a legal secretary, then as an administrator at UAW Legal Services and later as the Assistant Executive Director for University Suburban Health Center, from which she retired in 2005. Catherine’s greatest joy was being a doting grandmother to Paige and Declan, whom she loved dearly. Catherine was a voracious reader and loved to play a great game of Scrabble or Words with Friends, winning the majority of the time. She also enjoyed watching the Indians, Browns and Cavaliers on t.v. Catherine was the strongest, smartest and most loving woman. She will always be missed, but we take comfort in knowing her beautiful spirit will live on forever. Due to the pandemic, a Memorial Mass to celebrate Catherine’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, P.O. Box 72101. Cleveland, OH 44192 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
