Obituary: Norma Luella Christensen-Wernowsky

Norma Luella Christensen-Wernowsky was born in Kerrick, MN on October 20th, 1929 and passed away, at the remarkable age of 94, on January 23rd, 2024. She was born in a rural MN home with an outhouse, a water pump in the kitchen sink, a wood burning stove for heat and no electricity. The doctor charged her family one chicken and $15 for her “at home” delivery. Norma shared her life with her wonderful parents who immigrated from Denmark and 2 sisters and 3 brothers who all grew up in Minnesota. Norma was the last sibling to enter Heaven.

She was preceded in death by her beautiful daughter, Connie Lee Kupniewski (Ron), in 2007, her loving husband, Lancer Otto Wernowsky, in 2008, and her devoted grandsons, Douglas Kupniewski (Elizabeth) in 2020 and Daniel Eppolito in 2022.

Norma will be remembered for her love of life as she always found herself in the company of others making adventurous memories.  She loved gardening, sewing, dancing, crafting, shopping, traveling, helping others and especially spending time with her family. She adored her friends, church family and community outreach. Her appreciation and desire of traveling began when she married Lancer, an Army career man. They moved countless times, raised 3 daughters throughout various states, and ultimately retired and explored the US in their camper.

The past few years introduced moderate emotional and physical struggles and Norma began to pray for God to take her to her heavenly home.  God is faithful and her prayers were answered in the most peaceful and gracious way. She is rejoicing with those she has missed, in a heavenly body with no pain and restoration of her vision and hearing!  Norma leaves behind 2 daughters, Sharon Stepanich (Greg) and Sandra Hanzel-Wernowsky, 5 grandchildren, Scott Kupniewski, Patrick Kupniewski, Christopher Eppolito (Rebecca), Natalie Frank (Aaron), and Laura Smith-Kupniewski, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Grandma Toots, as she was fondly known, was loved immensely and will be greatly missed.
