Obituary: Robert Arnold Angell

996

Robert Arnold Angell, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 12th, 2022. Bob is survived by his devoted wife Cindy, 3 children, Larry (Rose), Leslie (Jeff), and Jennifer (Jay), 7 grandchildren (Anthony, Lauren, Kevin, Lindsay, Sean, Ashton, Everett) and 3 great grandchildren (Morgan, Ace, John).

Bob lived a long and colorful life. One nearly as vibrant as the clothes he wore. Born in Providence RI in 1937, he spent the majority of his school years in Canandaigua, New York, where he was a member of the varsity swim team and held records for the butterfly stroke.

Upon highschool graduation, Bob promptly enlisted in the Navy, where he served 4 years stationed in the Philippine Islands as a dental technician. Following his honorable discharge, Bob began an accomplished multi-decade career in sales, holding many notable positions including selling “Yellow Pages”, lawn fertilizer, and knitting needles, which ultimately landed him on the National TV Show, “What’s My Line” in 1965.

As a self-proclaimed “conversationalist”, Bob’s “legendary” status in sales was solidified when he moved to Cleveland, Ohio accepting a position with Management Recruiters Network and working his way to the title of VP of Franchise Development. He was an integral part of the company’s growth, scaling MRI to 2,000 locations.

One of his greatest marketing achievements was developing a referral program, rightfully named “On the Wings of an Angell”. This unique program played a large role in the accelerated expansion of MR franchises all over the world. Additionally, it was this program that provided Bob and Cindy the opportunity to travel and experience the many beautiful wonders of this world. He held this position until his retirement in 2003.

Bob’s other huge passion was his love of sports, but particularly Cleveland sports. He was a superfan of the Browns (a season ticket holder for 40+ years!), the Cavs and Indians (now Guardians). We will forever be grateful he finally witnessed a Cleveland Championship, (after a 52 year drought) when the Cavs won the NBA Finals in 2016. In his spare time, you could also find him on the golf course. A game he loved, but unfortunately, did not necessarily love him back!

Bob certainly loved the finer things in life including a good meal and a cocktail (or two!) and always made time for his children and grand-children. They certainly broke the mold on Bob Angell and his passing leaves a huge hole for his family and friends that knew him! Bob is and will always be a leader and role model to many. He lived his life with extraordinary determination to succeed and be successful. He was fearless, at times performed unapologetically with gut determination and passion in everything he did. He will be tremendously missed.

Family suggests memorial contributions in Bob’s name to The Rescue Inn, Inc. P.O. Box 246 North Olmsted, Ohio 44070 www.therescueinn.com. Friends may call at the FERFOLIA FUNERAL HOME 356 W. AURORA RD. (ST RT 82) SAGAMORE HILLS FOR VISITAION SATURDAY 4-7PM.
