What’s in your wallet? Males allegedly steal credit cards and go on short-lived spending spree:

Police responded to an Aurora Street retail electronics store Aug. 14, just before noon, to investigate a reported fraud involving three males.

One of the males allegedly purchased a laptop and a drone totaling $4,600, using an American Express card. He was not asked for any other identification at the time by the clerk.

A second male, who was a member of the three, attempted to make a similar purchase within five minutes of the first male. However this time he was asked and refused to show proper identification to an employee and the purchase was denied. The male left the store, according to the report.

According to police the third male started to allegedly act “nervous” and left the store without attempting a purchase.

A store employee became suspicious and watched the third male exit the store and walk to Route 82. The employee told police he witnessed one of the males drop a wallet into a storm sewer near the store.

Police soon arrived and were able to detain the male who made the purchase a short distance away.  The other two had gotten into a car and driven away. The detained male is from Puerto Rico, according to police. The wallet allegedly contained four credit cards in another person’s name and a fake identification card from New York City.

Police contacted the owner, who said the cards, not the wallet, were taken from his car earlier in the day while he was at an Aurora golf course.

The male from Puerto Rico was charged with four counts of receiving stolen property and one count of fraud. He is being held in the Macedonia jail. Police are attempting to determine the names of the other two males, who drove away in a white Mercedes Benz SUV.
