Residents Vote Against City of Macedonia’s .25% Earned Income Tax Increase

Macedonia, Ohio – (May 09, 2018) – On May 8, residents in the City of Macedonia voted against an .25% earned income tax increase.

“I would like to thank everyone who voted for the earned income tax increase on Tuesday,” said Mayor Joseph Migliorini. “Unfortunately, we were unable to pass the issue. The funds that would have been generated by the .25% earned income tax increase were critical for our City’s safety services.”

Since the increase did not pass, funds will not be distributed between the Police, Fire and Service Departments and a new state-mandated 911 system will not be implemented. Macedonia will not purchase a new fire truck to replace the current vehicle, which is 26 years old. The City will also not be able to add additional Police and Service personnel to advance the safety and security of the community as planned.

“Unfortunately, our safety services will be negatively impacted by this decision, and there will be a lack of both staff and resources,” said Mayor Migliorini. “In the future, hopefully there will be a way for our City to account for this needed funding.”
