Police Investigate Deadly Shooting That Left One Man Dead, Another Injured
A shooting in Sagamore Hills last week has resulted in the death of a local resident, with authorities now conducting a homicide investigation.
According to reports from multiple news sources, Adam Lempner, a 31-year-old Sagamore Hills resident, was shot and killed on Wednesday, May 14th near the intersection of Shearer Road and Carlin Road. The Summit County Medical Examiner confirmed that Lempner suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at an Akron hospital early Thursday morning at 1:26 a.m.
Sagamore Hills Police Chief David Hayes stated in a press release that Lempner had entered the rear seat of a vehicle occupied by two South Euclid men, ages 20 and 18. “Numerous shots were then fired inside the vehicle,” according to Chief Hayes.
Witnesses reported seeing the two occupants pull Lempner from the car before fleeing the area. Two neighbors heard the gunshots and called 911.
The vehicle was later located at North Coast Behavioral Health in Northfield after two employees called 911 to report someone with gunshot wounds in their parking lot. Authorities discovered that the 20-year-old occupant had also been shot during the incident. He was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center Main Campus where he remains in stable condition.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations is assisting in processing the crime scene on Shearer Road. The vehicle has been impounded and will undergo forensic examination.
“At this time, this Homicide Investigation is continuing, and no further information will be released,” stated Chief David E. Hayes of the Sagamore Hills Police Department.
Northfield Village Police Department was initially called to assist with the shooting victim but was redirected to North Coast Behavioral Health Facility where they helped detain one of the subjects while documenting the scene.
