County officials monitoring federally funded programs as government closure begins
Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro released a statement Tuesday acknowledging the federal government shutdown and its potential effects on local residents.
The county is monitoring developments that could affect federally funded programs including SNAP benefits, Medicaid and veterans’ programs. Officials said they will provide updates if service changes occur.
Shapiro’s office remains in contact with U.S. Rep. Emilia Sykes’ office to track local impacts. Sykes’ office created an FAQ page addressing shutdown-related questions.
The statement recognized potential hardship for federal employees and contractors living in Summit County. Officials encouraged affected residents to contact local community support services or check the county website for updates.
County departments are reviewing which local programs receive federal funding to determine potential disruptions.
