AKRON – Summit County Sheriff Kandy Fatheree and Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announce the return of the CCW Workshop program for the 2024 year.
The Sheriff’s Office and Prosecutor’s Office launched the CCW Workshop program one year ago with the goal of educating residents on changes to concealed carry laws that went into effect in 2022. The program was met with great interest, with close to 100 residents in attendance at each of the seven sessions held in 2023.
“The initial response was overwhelmingly positive, and we were flooded with calls to host more sessions,” said Sheriff Fatheree. “We quickly realized that there was a strong desire for this knowledge, and we expanded the program for the full 2023 year.”
The format of the CCW Workshops consists of legal instruction given by two prosecuting attorneys from the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office, and a basic safety primer taught by the Sheriff’s Office. The content of the presentation has evolved over the past year to also include information regarding “stand your ground” laws, the castle doctrine, and rights to self-defense and defense of property.
“We are pleased to team up with Sheriff Fatheree to inform the community on the latest Ohio gun laws,” said Elliot Kolkovich, Community Outreach Prosecutor. “Our goal is that law-abiding citizens will use the utmost safety when having their gun in public”
The first CCW Workshop of the new year will be held on Wednesday, February 21st at 6:30pm at the Lawton Street Community Center in Akron. Future Workshops will be announced on the Sheriff’s Office and Prosecutor’s Office social media pages, and on the CCW section of the Sheriff’s Office website at sheriff.summitoh.net.
Those interested in attending upcoming CCW Workshops must register in advance, as seating is limited at each venue. Registration can be found under the CCW section of the Sheriff’s Office website and mobile app, or by scanning the QR code below.
