Sheriff’s Office and Prosecutor’s Office to host additional CCW Workshops in response to public request

AKRON – In response to the overwhelmingly positive feedback to the series of CCW Workshops held last month and comments from the public urging more sessions, Summit County Sheriff Kandy Fatheree and Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh are announcing the continuation of the CCW Workshop series.

Classes will be held over the coming months at different venues throughout the county, with the first new workshop scheduled for Wednesday, March 29th 7:00-9:00pm at the Fairlawn Kiwanis Community Center.

“My Office received many calls and online comments asking that we hold more workshops,” said Sheriff Fatheree. “We are more than happy to continue this program. Providing this free education helps responsible gunowners learn their rights and the new laws, and makes for an overall safer community.”

The workshops are divided into two halves. The first half will be taught by an Assistant Prosecutor from the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office, and will focus on the new changes to Ohio’s concealed carry laws that went into effect last summer, and what impact those changes will have on gunowners and law enforcement.

The second half will consist of a basic gun safety primer taught by Sheriff’s deputy instructors to educate gun owners on best practices to safely store, handle, and use their weapon. At the end of each session attendees will receive a complimentary gun lock from the Sheriff’s Office.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for people to learn about the latest Ohio laws about legally concealing and carrying a gun. I’m pleased the previous classes were so popular and I am proud to work with Sheriff Fatheree on this important training and educating as many people as possible.”

Future CCW Workshops will be announced on the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Summit County Prosecutor’s Office social media, and under the “CCW” section of the Sheriff’s Office website.

Those interested in attending upcoming CCW Workshops must register in advance, as seating is limited at each venue. Registration can be found under the CCW section of the Sheriff’s Office website at sheriff.summitoh.net, the CCW section of the Sheriff’s Office mobile app, or by scanning the QR code on the flyer.
