Jaivon Jones (132 lbs), who has been undefeated this season, is returning to the state tournament after placing 5th last year at 126. Surprisingly however, Jones fell in the first round, losing 5-4 to Sam Glassco of Mason after not being able to escape in the third period. The fact is, Jones didn’t spend much time on the bottom this year, as he consistently maintains control of his opponents, which is what he did later Thursday night in Consolations Round 1 against Nick Varanelli of Lewis Center Olentangy, winning 6-0. Jones won 6-1 Friday afternoon in Consolations Round 2 against Connor Euton of Westerville North, guaranteeing a top eight placement. Friday night, Jones beat Caleb Graber from Green 7-1 in the Consolation Quarterfinals. Saturday he did not fare as well. In the first round of placement matches, he fell to Blake Saito of Perrysburg 1-0 after giving Saito an escape point at the start of the third period and then not being able to score a takedown before time expired.  In his final match, after scoring early to take a 4-0 lead over Scott Richter from St. Ed’s, Jones was quickly reversed to his back and pinned with 17 seconds left in the first period, finishing 6th in the State Division 1 at 132 lbs.  Jones has not yet committed to a college, but does plan to continue wrestling at the next level.
