Stolen Jeep, Yelling, and Mysterious Backpacks – Macedonia Police Report Incidents 12/04/19 – 01/04/2020

The holidays sometimes cause extra stress. Tensions seemed to be running high in the local area if the police reports from December are any indication:

Domestic Violence

On 12/25/19 dispatch advised that the female reporting party stated that she was outside the home and that her husband was going “crazy” inside and damaging property.
Upon arrival, I observed the reporting party/victim,  standing outside near the driveway. The police officers were inside the home, speaking to a male who was laying on the ground, between the front door and the family room. The male stated that he had a heart defibrillator, inside of his body and that the alert had gone off two (2) times. The Macedonia EMS was then called to the scene.

The female stated that she had come home from a family party and that the male had been drinking. She stated that she went upstairs, into the third bedroom and locked the door. She also stated that she did so because he was intoxicated and began to yell at her, reference his thoughts about her family.

She stated that over the next few hours, she could hear the male yelling downstairs and that he was becoming more agitated. She states that at approximately he came up the stairs and began to bang on her door. She states that he then kicked the door open, breaking the door frame and causing some of the frame to come away from the wall and fall to the ground.

She states that she advised the male that she was going to call the police. She states that He then picked up a piece of !he broken door frame and pointed it at his chest and stated, “I’m going to tell them you stabbed me with this.” She states that he then proceeded to stab himself with the piece of the broken wood.

With the totality of the evidence, it was determined that the male was the primary aggressor and did make his wife believe that he was going to cause her physical harm.

The male was charged with domestic violence. The charge is elevated to a misdemeanor of the second degree because of a prior conviction m 1997 (Medina PD). He will be taken into custody when he is released from Cleveland Clinic Twinsburg.

Male and female yelling in Macedonia Walmart Parking Lot

On 12-27-19 at 1805 hours, dispatch was advised of a disturbance in the Walmart parking lot. A male and a female were yelling at each other with a child in the car. The male was cited on Disorderly Conduct (MM) and Open Container (MM) then arrested and turned over to Garfield Heights PD on a active warrant.

Reports of a man yelling at people in Gamestop

On 12/29119 at approximately 1500 hrs I was dispatched to GameStop 8210 Macedonia Commons Blvd. to respond to a report of disorderly conduct. The caller stated that the subject, a white male with blonde hair and a black jacket, appeared to be intoxicated and was yelling at people in the store. Upon my arrival, I entered the store and observed the subject on the floor with another male holding him down. The other male, later identified himself as an off duty police officer and stated that the subject was attempting to steal from the store. It was immediately apparent that the subject was under the influence of drugs so I placed him in handcuffs and put him in the back of my cruiser.

The incident began when the subject was outside the store pounding on the glass before he entered the store. They stated that, once inside the store, he was yelling, slurring his speech and falling over. They stated that everyone in the store was uneasy with his presence. The off duty police officer stated that the subject took an item from one of the shelves and started to leave the store with it. He stated that he stopped the subject, put him on the floor and held him there while the store employee called Macedonia Police. Another witness, stated that she was outside the store, saw what was going on and was too scared to enter the store.

I spoke with the subject while he was in the back of my cruiser and, after initially not being table to articulate his name and date of birth. He was transported to Macedonia City Jail where he was charged through Macedonia Mayor’s Court with disorderly conduct (M4).
While in booking, Dennis was yelling and crying but his speech became more clear. He stated that shortly before the incident he snorted a pill that he believed to be fentanyl.

Car Stolen from Planet Fitness Parking Lot

On 12/14/2019 at approximately 1557 hrs a police officer met with a male at Planet Fitness, 949 E. Aurora Rd. for a report of a vehicle theft. The male advised me that he parked his vehicle and went inside Planet Fitness. The male stated he went into the locker room and changed and then went to workout. The male stated when he returned to the locker room and changed he went outside and found his vehicle was stolen. He stated the keys to the vehicle were in the pocket of the pants he left in the locker room. He advised the keys were now missing. He stated the vehicle was a 2018 white Jeep Compass. Dispatch advised me the plate that was assigned to that car. He signed the stolen vehicle affidavit and the car was entered into LEADS.

The police officer watched the security video and saw a while male wearing a black jacket with a small white emblem on the left chest area. He was also wearing dark blue jeans and white tennis shoes. He also had a red headband style ear warmer on. He was seen entering and exiting the locker room and exit the building. The male is seen on exterior cameras taking the keys from his pocket, looks around the parking lot. He is then seen approaching the Jeep, enters it, and then is seen leaving the parking lot.

The Macedonia police were able to identity the male in the video and issued a request for a warrant.

Reports of a suspicious male wearing all black clothing, a black mask and carrying a black back pack

On 12/12/19 at approximately 1400 hrs officers were dispatched to the area of Oakview Dr. and Ledge Acres Rd to respond to several calls of a suspicious male wearing all black clothing, a black mask and carrying a black back pack. While driving near 9371 Ledge Acres. Rd., a male walking down the street pointed to a house on the street and stated that he saw the subject run into the back yard of the house. I exited my cruiser and walked east into a pine grove behind the house. As I reached a clearing, I observed the male wearing all black clothing, a black mask and carrying a back pack walking approximately 30 yards east of me. I identified myself as a police officer and ordered him to stop. I pursued him on foot as he began to run eastbound through the woods then slightly south into the backyard of 799 Ledge Rd. on another house where he dropped the black backpack. He ran northbound through the woods and through the back yard of a Skyland Dr. house. He crossed over Skyland Dr. and ran north on Ledge Acres Rd. into the backyard of a house on Ledge Acres rd. The police officer observed him in the woods and was able to stop him, place him in hand cuffs and advise him of his Miranda Rights. The subject stated that he ran because he did not want to get into a pursuit with police but refused to answer further questions. He was charged with obstructing official business.

In an unrelated back back incident…
On 12/19/2019 at approximately 17 S2 hours I, a police officer responded to 1411 Meadowlawn Drive to investigate a report of a backpack being left at that address. The caller and resident there, David Mullen, stated that he noticed the pack sitting on the curb between his house and 1421 Meadowlawn Drive at approximately 1200 hours. Mullen looked inside the pack and found shotgun shells, a handwarmer, and what appears to be a duck call. He moved the pack underneath his mailboxes, but when no one had come to claim the pack, he called the police. I asked him if any of his neighbors hunt or own firearms, and he did not think so. I advised Mullen that I would take the pack to the station for safekeeping, and that if anyone comes looking for it, that he can tell them to come to the station to claim it.
