Two eighth graders wrapped up their St. Barnabas years with a first-place investing win and a final-home-game moment they’ll never forget.

NORTHFIELD CENTER, Ohio – Two St. Barnabas School eighth graders are closing out their time together with wins in more than one arena — one in a statewide investing competition and one in their home gym.

Sydney Frackelton and Dana Stockard, described by the school as a “dynamic duo” of Roots & Wings students, recently earned a first-place finish in the Ohio Stock Market Challenge’s middle school division, according to a post on the St. Barnabas School Facebook page.

The 10-week challenge concluded Dec. 12 and brought together middle school and high school students from across Ohio in a real-time investing simulation. Frackelton and Stockard finished first among middle school teams and placed seventh overall out of 230 total teams — including high school competitors — with a final portfolio value of $107,671, a 7.67% return during the competition.

Their first-place finish earned a $150 cash prize, lunch and “bragging rights,” the school said.

This month, the teammates also delivered a memorable final-home-game highlight after six seasons playing together. With time running out and one last shot still needed, the pair improvised: Stockard intentionally missed a second free throw, secured the rebound and passed to Frackelton, who hit a 3-pointer before time expired — an exclamation point on their last home game at St. Barnabas.
