Nordonia Barely Passes Tax Levy as Twinsburg Voters Reject Both School Bond and Zoning Change
The May 6 primary election saw Summit County voters make significant decisions on local issues, with only 14.04% of registered voters participating across the county. These are unofficial results as reported by the Summit County Board of Elections.
The Nordonia Hills City School District proposed tax levy additional barely passed with 4,665 votes for and 4,585 against, squeaking by with a slim 80-vote margin out of more than 9,250 ballots cast.
Twinsburg voters decisively rejected two major proposals. The proposed zoning amendment failed with 2,587 votes against compared to 1,530 in favor. Similarly, the Twinsburg City School District’s proposed bond issue was defeated by a substantial margin with 3,552 voters rejecting it versus 1,868 supporting it.
Sagamore Hills Township voters approved a proposed tax levy replacement with 2,193 votes in favor and 1,261 against, passing by a nearly 2-to-1 margin.
State Issue 2 regarding infrastructure improvements passed by a comfortable margin countywide with 37,941 voters supporting it compared to 14,710 opposing it.
In Akron’s Ward 1 Council race for an unexpired term ending December 31, 2027, Fran Wilson won the Democratic primary with 1,077 votes, defeating Sam DeShazior who received 639 votes and Emily Durway who garnered 376 votes.
Bruce Bolden secured the Democratic primary for Akron’s Ward 8 Council seat, defeating N.J. Akbar by a count of 1,683 to 1,300.
In Tallmadge, voters selected three Democratic candidates for Council-at-large positions. David G. Kline led with 863 votes, followed by Jessica Epstein with 610 and Lindsay Cammel Halm with 411 votes.
Cynthia Curtin ran unopposed in the Republican primary for Stow Municipal Court Judge, receiving 3,978 votes.
The Akron-Summit County Library proposed bond issue was approved with 26,632 votes in favor and 12,351 against.

- Springfield Township proposed tax levy replacement and decrease passed: 1,750 for, 857 against
- Aurora CSD proposed tax levy renewal passed: 69 for, 42 against
- Highland LSD proposed tax levy additional failed: 11 for, 32 against
- Manchester LSD proposed tax levy renewal passed: 825 for, 442 against
- Manchester LSD’s second proposed tax levy renewal also passed: 828 for, 453 against
- Mogadore LSD proposed tax levy additional passed: 576 for, 332 against
- Springfield LSD proposed tax levy renewal passed: 2,303 for, 1,055 against
- Springfield LSD’s second proposed tax levy renewal also passed: 2,291 for, 1,103 against
- Barberton Public Library proposed tax levy renewal passed: 1,038 for, 401 against
In liquor option votes, Akron 9-C rejected a local liquor option with 38 votes against and 25 in favor, while Green 4-D approved their local liquor option with 66 votes for and 29 against.
A total of 53,973 ballots were cast across the county’s 371 precincts, with most voters casting their ballots at polling locations rather than by mail or walk-in absentee voting.
