The Summit Emergency Communications Center has been named the Ohio Gold Star Dispatch Center of the Year. County Executive Ilene Shapiro announced the honor Oct. 1. The award was presented Sept. 16 in Delaware, Ohio, as part of the Ohio Gold Star Awards program.

The Gold Star Awards honor exceptional emergency communications professionals and teams. The program recognizes the important role telecommunicators play in the safety of communities across Ohio. It is held alongside the Ohio NENA/APCO Joint State Conference.
Shapiro praises dispatch team
Shapiro praised the center’s staff in a statement announcing the award.
“This recognition is a testament to the incredible team we have built at the Summit Emergency Communications Center,” Shapiro said. “Our dispatchers are often the first point of contact during someone’s most difficult moments, and the work they do every day requires skill, compassion and an unwavering commitment to public safety. I am incredibly proud of the entire SECC team and pleased to see their hard work recognized statewide.”

SECC is a regional center that serves communities and public safety agencies across Summit County. It brings emergency communications together in one centralized operation. That setup lets participating communities share technology, resources and expertise. The county says it also helps maintain quality service for residents and first responders.
SECC currently provides dispatch services for Boston Heights, Copley, Coventry, Cuyahoga Falls, Fairlawn, Mogadore, Munroe Falls, Silver Lake, Stow and Tallmadge. It also dispatches for the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Summit Metro Parks.
