Home Weatherization Assistance available to income-qualified residents countywide

Summit County offers help with lowering energy costs, including insulation, air sealing, furnace repair/replacement, and hot water tank repair/replacement, countywide through the Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP).

Unlike some other housing repair programs which can only be used in certain municipalities due to restrictions in federal funding, HWAP is available in all 31 communities in Summit County. Owner-occupied homes or rental properties may be eligible. To qualify, applicants must meet household income requirements, listed below, defined as gross income for all adults living in the home.

If your household is approved to receive services, residents can expect energy audit of the home completed by an inspector from the Summit County Department of Community Development to determine which repairs you may be eligible for. HWAP does not provide emergency services; applications are processed in the order they are received.

Residents can find the application at https://co.summitoh.net/pages/Minor-Home-Repair-Programs.html.

The application and documentation can be submitted by email (in PDF format) to DODapplication@summitoh.net or by mail to County of Summit Home Repair, 175 S. Main St, Room 207, Akron, Ohio 44308.
