Event offers hands-on digital safety training at three skill levels
Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro, Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich, Sheriff Kandy Fatheree and County Councilwoman Bethany McKenney will host an “Outsmart the Scam Workshop” on Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to noon at Barberton Middle School.
The free workshop aims to help residents prevent and respond to scams while learning safe digital navigation techniques. The event will feature three breakout sessions from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., divided by skill level: “Digital Basics” for beginners, “Elevate Your Digital Skills” for intermediate users, and “Exploring Advanced Tech” for experts.
Digital navigators from the Akron Metropolitan Housing Association will lead sessions alongside speakers from Fairlawn Gig and the Summit County Office of Information Technology. An optional question-and-answer period will follow from 11:30 a.m. to noon for individualized assistance.
The workshop takes place at Barberton Middle School on 4th Street NW in Barberton. While pre-registration is encouraged, it is not required. Those who register in advance will be entered into a drawing for a four-pack of tickets to the Akron Zoo.
