SUMMIT COUNTY—Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro and County Council recently honored the Akron and Hudson chapters of the League of Women Voters and joined the organizations in celebrating Sunshine Week, a national initiative spearheaded by the News Leaders Association to educate the public about the importance of open government and the dangers of excessive and unnecessary secrecy.
In presenting the commendation to leaders of the two chapters, County Executive Shapiro and Councilmember John Schmidt (District 2) noted the League of Women Voters has long been a champion of government transparency since its founding in 1920. They thanked the League for its work promoting good government and its diligence to ensure that all government records, information and meetings are fully noticed and open to the public.
