Summit County Sheriff’s Office: Cruelty to Animals and Resisting Arrest

On April 25, 2023, at approximately midnight, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office received reports of an intoxicated man, identified as Louis Shipka engaging in violent behavior at his Green residence. Shipka was making threatening statements, including threats to shoot his dog. Shipka did shoot and kill his dog. After deputies arrived on scene, Shipka refused to exit his residence. Deputies learned Shipka had a large amount of firearms in his residence. Sipka refused to exit the residence and barricaded himself inside.

The Summit County SWAT Team and hostage negotiators were dispatched to the residence. Contact was made with Shipka by negotiators, but he again refused to exit the residence. A drone was activated and could see Shipka in the basement of the residence. Deputies made entry into the residence and Shipka was taken into custody after an encounter with deputies. Shipka was treated and released by the Green Fire Department.

Louis Shipka, age 34 of Green was arrested and charged with Cruelty to Animals (F5), Weapons while Intoxicated (M1), Discharge of a Firearm in City Limits (M1), Obstructing Official Business (M2) and Resisting Arrest (M2). Shipka was transported to the Summit County Jail.
