As part of a continued effort to improve and streamline the CCW application process, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office is announcing the implementation of a new scheduling and payment software for those applying for or renewing their Concealed Carry permit.
The Sheriff’s Office has partnered with Permitium, LLC, a software designer that specializes in web-based law enforcement services. Through this new software applicants will be able to schedule their CCW appointment, upload the necessary documents, submit their ID photo, and make their payment online ahead of time.
By giving applicants the ability to upload their information and pay in advance, this new system will shorten and simplify the appointment process, which will also allow deputies to see more applicants each day. Additionally, it will allow Sheriff’s Office staff the ability to get an earlier start on the background check process, resulting in shorter wait times for applicants to receive their license.
Addressing the CCW backlog has been a priority for Sheriff Fatheree since taking office earlier this year. The first phase of that effort occurred in June with the opening of a second CCW processing office on Tallmadge Rd. in Akron. The launching of this software marks phase two, and the exploration of opening further processing locations throughout the county in 2022 will be the third phase.
“My administration is always searching for ways to better serve the public,” said Sheriff Fatheree, “This new software will not only improve the CCW process, but also fits into our larger mission of modernizing and improving the efficiency of services provided by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.”
Applicants can schedule their CCW appointment by clicking “Concealed Carry” on the Information tab of our website at sheriff.summitoh.net, or through the Summit County Sheriff’s Office mobile app on their smartphone or tablet.
