On Sunday, February 19, 2023, at approximately 2:40 a.m., the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to Barth Drive in the City of Green in regard to a vehicle that had crashed into a residence. A 2010 Subaru had been traveling northbound on Mayfair Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle crossed over the centerline, went off the roadway to the left, and eventually crashed into the residence on Barth Drive. A 69 year old male was sleeping inside the residence and was struck by the vehicle after it crashed into the home. The male resident was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 32 year old female from the City of Green. She was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital by Green Fire.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Summit Metro Crash Response Team responded to the scene to investigate the crash. It was determined the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. Speed, alcohol and narcotics use are suspected to be factors in the crash. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
Mayfair Road was closed for approximately four hours.
