Summit County Sheriff’s Office PRESS RELEASE Traffic Crash in Green

On Sunday, August 1, 2021, at approximately 6:15 p.m., a two-vehicle crash involving a 2009 Toyota Prius and a 2000 Yamaha Motorcycle occurred in the City of Green. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Summit Metro Crash Response Team responded to the crash, which occurred in the intersection of South Main Street and Comet Road. A 75 year old female from Uniontown was operating the 2009 Toyota Prius with a 73 year old male passenger. A 32 year old male from the City of Green was operating the 2000 Yamaha RZF-R6. The Toyota Prius was travelling southbound on South Main Street when the rider of the Yamaha attempted to pass the vehicle on the left at a high rate of speed in a prohibited passing area. The Toyota was struck by the Yamaha as it attempted to pass the Toyota in the intersection on the left. The 32 year old male was pronounced dead on scene as a result of the crash. Speed is suspected to be a factor and the motorcycle rider was not wearing a helmet. The driver of the Toyota and the passenger were treated and released on scene by the Green Fire Department. The crash remains under investigation by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Summit Metro Crash Response Team.
