On Wednesday, August 31 at 11:00 a.m., Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro’s Office and Summit County Public Health Commissioner Donna Skoda will host an Overdose Awareness Day press conference. Medical Examiner Dr. Lisa Kohler, Alcohol, Drug Addiction & Mental Health Services Board Executive Director Aimee Wade, Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan, Remedy Church Pastor Deante Lavender and IBH Certified Recovery Coach Mark Salchak will join them.
Overdose Awareness Day is recognized by both the federal and state government and was formally recognized by County Executive Shapiro and County Council. The participants will discuss the current state of the ongoing opioid epidemic, the work of the OAAC, how residents can access naloxone and more. Members of the media may join the press conference via Zoom. It will also be live streamed on Facebook for the public.
