The Nordonia High School Synergy choral group performed at the Cuyahoga Falls’ Blossom Music Center as the opening vocalists for Foreigner’s farewell performance July 24, 2023 @7pm. Synergy was chosen as the grand prize winner in a contest that allowed the musical group to open up for Foreigner. Foreigner’s farewell tour brought thirteen thousand spectators, while Synergy took the stage just before them. Synergy performed a couple of their songs; “Hit Me with Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar, and “Anyway You Want It” by Journey.
In order to be selected, schools had to submit an mp3 recording of a classic rock song, which were judged by Foreigner and 98.5 WNCX Radio Station. Synergy recorded Journey’s “Any Way You Want It” for their submission. This track will also be on Synergy’s upcoming album that they are currently in the midst of recording.” St. Ignatius was the other school chosen to perform at Blossom, however NHS Synergy was the grand prize winner.

The Synergy group is active and busy year round. Depending on the time of year, they are either rehearsing, performing or recording their album in the studio, or a combination of all three. The Synergy choral group is made up of the following students: Camille Laviano – Soprano 1 (Freshman), Julia Greenberg – Soprano 2 (Sophomore), Aleithia Wilson – Alto 1(Sophomore), Mia Mellino – Alto 2 (Sophomore), Keirstin Trehan – Alto 3 (Junior), Christian Chang – Tenor (Junior), Caeden Bolling – Bass (Sophomore), Nick Spinetti – Vocal Percussion (Senior).

“We are very grateful for all the support we receive from our choir family, and Nordonia Choral Boosters for providing meal money to performers. We also want to thank our other choir teachers at Nordonia- Kathleen Pellington of Nordonia MS and Tina Lantz of Lee Eaton Elementary for their support!”, says John Pickering Founder and Director/Musical Coordinator at Nordonia High School. Additionally, “Getting to hear our recording on the radio and being announced as the winning submission was really cool. It was a great experience being backstage and seeing members of Foreigner & Loverboy.”

John Pickering and his musical group called Synergy work hard year round and having this concert stage experience in front of thirteen thousand spectators acknowledges that fact. Winning this prize was reassurance that their hard work has paid off. The Nordonia Hills community would also like to extend their congratulations to the NHS Synergy musical group for their hard work and achievement.
