Well, the Cleveland Browns lost to the Kansas City Chiefs by a final score of 33-32. Luckily, it was only a practice game or the disappointment would’ve been radiant. Thus, the team finished its preseason with a final record of 1-2-1 after playing in four games (one extra due to the Hall of Fame Game).
Certainly, the biggest question for the Browns comes after the unreliable kicker Cade York missed his third game-winning field goal of the preseason and then also an extra point to start with in the affair against the Chiefs. It’s hard to be certain in a kicker who appears so lost out on the field. A team needs to have trust in a player that could determine the final outcome of a game.
The Browns have a talented Jim Schwartz-led defense and that showed with pick-six plays by both Juan Thornhill and Caleb Biggers. It’s a swarming bunch that is ready for anything against even the greatest of opponents and fans should be excited to see them compete.
Earlier in the week, the Browns traded quarterback Joshua Dobbs and a 7th-round pick to the Cardinals for a 2024 5th-round pick. This goes to show the team’s trust in backup quarterback Dorian-Thompson-Robinson, a 23-year-old 5th-round pick out of UCLA in 2023, who is just a snap away from seeing action in this upcoming season.
Not much can be made from a record or statistics in the preseason. It’s just important that none of the significant starters got injured. The team begins with its first game on Sunday, September 10 in Cleveland against the Cincinnati Bengals (1 p.m.) and is ready for action.
The Browns certainly have the potential talent to be a competitor this season. It’s simply a matter of building that winning culture missing from this franchise since its return to Cleveland in 1999. Of course, everybody knows the team has yet to win a Super Bowl and so yearns for that coveted crown.
If head coach Kevin Stefanski is unable to find winning ways he could be on the chopping block in the near future in Cleveland. Let’s hope it doesn’t get to that point and he is actually the opposite, a talented coach of the squad.
Other players that must have big years are DE Myles Garrett, RB Nick Chubb, G Joel Bitonio, WR Amari Cooper and CB Denzel Ward (Nordonia Graduate of 2015) amongst many others.
Last year, the Browns went 7-10 and finished in last place in the AFC North. However, it must be noted that quarterback Deshaun Watson had to serve his 11-game suspension throughout with quarterback Jacoby Brissett as the starter.
This year, the team has a quarterback and a team that’s ready to go from the first week and will contend throughout without any hindrances such as suspensions like in seasons past. That’s important to contention.
Well, here’s to another fantastic year of being Browns fans where there’s never a dull moment and that’s for sure. Let’s just remember that if this year doesn’t work out, there’s always next year. It’s true, that’s our favorite line to say as fans of this team forever and always.
