LAST LEAF PICKUP TAKING PLACE

At last Monday’s regular Trustees meeting the Board reluctantly passed a resolution to add an additional but unannounced one time leaf pickup.  This was done in the interest of public safety to remove currently existing piles from the drainage ditches to prevent flood potentials.  As of today ALL areas East of Olde Eight and North of Route 82 are completed – NO more pickups will occur in these areas.  The rest of the areas South of Route 82 and West of Olde Eight are currently being completed by Nied’s.  Removal of leaf piles created after this pickup will be the responsibility of the property owner(s).

CHANGE TO NORTHFIELD CENTER’S ELECTRIC AGGREGATION SUPPLIER
Northfield Center is a member of the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC), which selected FirstEnergy Solutions to provide electric generation service to eligible participants at a savings of 6% off the utility’s generation rate for residents and 4% off for small businesses.

After negotiations between the groups failed, FirstEnergy Solutions provided notice to NOPEC that they would be ending their contract with them.

As a result, effective with your January or February meter read date, FirstEnergy Solutions will no longer be your electric generation supplier and you will return to your utility’s standard offer unless you choose a supplier.  It’s important to note that you will not experience any interruption in your service.

Participants in the electric aggregation program will soon be receiving a letter in the mail notifying them of this change and explaining their options.  If you have questions when you receive this letter, please call FirstEnergy Solutions’ NOPEC Customer Care line at 1-888-254-9227, which is available weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

  1. Who can I call if I have questions about my contract with FirstEnergy Solutions?
  2. You will receive a letter in the mail that will explain this change and your options.  However, if you have questions after receiving this letter, please call FirstEnergy Solutions’ NOPEC Customer Care line at 1-888-254-9227.
  1. If I don’t have an electric supplier, will I be without power?
  2. No.  Once your contract with FirstEnergy Solutions ends, you will begin receiving your generation from the local electric utility. You will not have any interruption in service.
  1. How do I shop for a new supplier? Where do I find information on offers available to me?
  2. If you’re interested in shopping for a new generation supplier, you can visit the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio’s website: www.energychoice.ohio.gov.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Q >>>1 – Paul, did you know that year after year certain residents of Fantail Drive pile their leaves IN THE STREET and parking on the fire hydrant side of the street is common practice…. can something be done?

Q >>>2 – There is a family on the corner of Dorwick and Beacon Hill who blow there leaves well into the street.  They do this every year and its particularly bad this year.  Can you please do something about it because it’s a bad traffic hazard?

A >>> – I advised our Road Department, Zoning and the Sheriff’s Department on your complaint considering the fact that you are not the first to report these problems.  It would also help if you or anyone else in the area would call the Sheriff’s Office when these problems occur.  Also, our Road Department recently used a plow to move some of these piles off of the roadways.

Q >>> – I was perusing the Northfield Center Township website looking for the bi-weekly recycle
collection dates but all I could find was the rubbish collection dates on the Township calendar.
Would it be possible to update the calendar to include the recycle dates as well. As I get older
it is becoming harder to remember if I put the recycle bin out the previous week or not.

A >>> – You’re not the only one who asked about this.  I am happy to report that Kimble will be including a calendar in their next billing statements!

Q >>> – Just wondering when the leaves are going to be picked up in my development? I saw that Olde 8 got picked up last week but still not in my area.

A >>> – There a just a few remaining areas such as yours where round two has yet to be completed.  I am told that this should be completed before the storms hit us this weekend.

Q >>> – I live near the very end of North Oakmont. I noticed today that the field across the street was cleared out. I was wondering if you knew why?

A >>> – The land is owned by the state and since there are no longer any structures on it, there is no requirement to maintain it.  However, due to the weeds and high grass complaints that we received, our Road Department asked the state to clean up the area and that is exactly what has happened.

Q >>> – I read in the newsleader that the sheriff’s department does not know what the liquid is that was used in the vandalism at our fire department.  Why did fire chief Tim Black say on tv that it was urine and now they say that they don’t know what it was?

A >>> – I’m sorry but I don’t have any answers for you.  I am just as perplexed by this as anyone, especially considering the fact that the cost of this vandalism is now around $13,000!  We are continuing our pursuit of answers and when I have something to share I will let you know.

YOUR GENERAL COMMENTS

Just wanted to drop a note to say thanks again for all of your hard work. As someone who has grown up in politics and it continues to the present day, I admire your dedication to making/keeping our township great. I was appalled at the “adult” behavior during the fire department issue, the bottom line, you were always concerned about our safety. We were very sad at the outcome.  Continue to do what you’ve always done, you’ll never please everyone.  Don’t ever loose your passion or zeal for serving the residents of our community….it does not go unnoticed.

A PERSONAL MESSAGE TO ALL OF MY FELLOW NCT RESIDENTS

You might have noticed that I haven’t published a newsletter in well over a month.  To put it simply, after a very busy and trying summer and fall dealing with the Fire Department issues, I took a little time to catch up on some personal business and quite frankly, to take a little break.  Things have settled down and the Township is now running quite smoothly.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish ALL of you a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a safe, prosperous and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
