Think You’re Allergic to dogs? Read this article.

Dog’s are a joy! Who doesn’t love them? Unfortunately, a decent percentage of people are allergic to them. What most people don’t know is that 30% of Americans are allergic to only male dogs. Here’s why.

According to Dr. Lakiea Wright, an allergist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, “Up to 30% of people who are allergic to dogs are allergic to one specific protein that dogs produce in their prostate of a dog. The 30 percent who are allergic to this protein may be able to own a neutered dog. Humans can be allergic to one or more of the five dog proteins but not others, which may affect which breed and gender will send you into a sneezing fit. “When we suspect a dog allergy, we’re testing for that whole allergen,” Wright explained. “But then we’re also looking at specific proteins, the parts that make up the whole, to refine that diagnoses.”

I bet you’re halfway done with this article, wondering,’ How will I know if I’m allergic to only male dogs.’ Here’s how:

  • Start by giving your allergy doctor a good history of your symptoms. When did the symptoms begin? Do you find yourself sneezing only — or more — around male dogs?
  • Also, ask How many other allergies do you have? Allergies tend to gang up. More than three specific types make you especially vulnerable to developing asthma or other breathing issues.

Please get those tests done before you jump to the pet store in excitement. Those with asthma or pollen and dust allergies are more susceptible to having a dangerous allergic reaction.
