The Twinsburg Board of Education convened Wednesday evening at 6:03 PM, covering a packed agenda of facilities planning, student achievements, and community initiatives. Following the Pledge of Allegiance and a brief executive session for legal matters, the board reconvened at 6:33 PM to address the evening’s business. Agenda

Black History Month Celebrations and Cultural Events

The meeting opened with board members wearing Black History Month t-shirts in solidarity with ongoing celebrations. A Black History Month vendor fair was underway simultaneously at the high school auditorium. Revised Tiger Legacy Project Unveiled

The board presented an updated version of the Tiger Legacy project, now carrying a $97 million price tag—$10 million less than the previous proposal that narrowly failed at the polls. The revised plan includes construction of a new PreK-6 school building and renovation of existing athletic facilities.

“We listened to our community’s feedback,” said Superintendent Kathi Powers, highlighting key changes to the proposal. The new plan features a land swap agreement with the City of Twinsburg, moving the proposed elementary school to a wooded lot near the Board of Education offices on Ravenna Road.

The bond levy, which will appear on the May 6, 2025 ballot, would cost property owners approximately $135 annually per $100,000 of property value, based on a 36-year term at an estimated 5% interest rate.

Academic and Professional Excellence

Kelly Lyons, American Sign Language teacher at Twinsburg High School, was announced as a recipient of the University of Rochester’s Singer Family Prize for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching, carrying a $44,000 award. The recognition came through a nomination from 2021 graduate Grace Mumley.

Senior Grace Robbins received special recognition for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, the organization’s highest honor. Robbins developed an educational program addressing Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), creating parent education materials and conducting training sessions at community baby showers.
