The US Air Guitar Championship returns to Cleveland, OH June 8, 2019 at The Winchester Music Tavern.
The 2019 US Air Guitar Championship tournaments have officially begun. US Air Guitar is the official governing body of competitive air guitar in America. This year’s tournament consists of 16 cities, including Cleveland, where for the 2nd consecutive year we will rock harder than ever before topping the city’s 2018 event which itself shattered National expectations.
Sponsored by Creek Strong Clothing and hosted by 2-time US Air Guitar National Finalist, Jerrod “Dick Diesel” Dewey, the event will see up to 20 competitors take the stage on June 8, 2019 at The Winchester Music Tavern in Lakewood, OH.
Last year’s winner, Leigh “AirLeigh Legal” Melendez, returns to defend her Cleveland championship title against this year’s crop of new and returning competitors. This year’s champion will take home a $300 prize and qualify for the US Air Guitar Championship Semi-Final round on August 1st in Nashville, TN.
Competitors will perform a ripping 60-second guitar edit of their favorite song and be scored by a panel of three judges on a 4.0 to 6.0 scale. Scoring criteria is strictly rock and roll consisting of: Technical Merit (does it look like they are playing a real guitar), Stage Presence (do they excite the audience and the judges), and Airness. What is Airness? Airness is best defined as the quality of performance which transcends the imitation of a real guitar and becomes an art form all on its own.
Spectators of all ages are welcome. Tickets are $7 in advance or $12 day of show, with show proceeds going to benefit Harvest for Hunger and The Greater Cleveland Food Bank. Competitor entry is $15, open to competitors 18+ years of age only. Tickets are available through the venue’s website at https://www.thewinchestermusictavern.com/
