Wadsworth Overwhelms Knights in 62-21 Victory

MACEDONIA — Wadsworth remained undefeated with a dominant 62-21 victory over Nordonia on Friday night at Boliantz Stadium, as the Grizzlies improved to 8-0 on the season while the Knights dropped to 6-2.

The game was a tale of two halves, with Wadsworth taking control early and never looking back. The Grizzlies led 13-0 after the first quarter and exploded for 28 points in the second quarter to take a commanding 41-21 halftime advantage.

Wadsworth quarterback Brysen Hall put on a passing clinic, completing 13 of 19 attempts for 317 yards. His favorite target was wide receiver Calix Lemp, who torched the Knights defense for 171 yards receiving. Hall connected with Lemp four times for touchdowns, including scoring strikes of 35, 72 and 27 yards in the second quarter.

Running back Gavin Madigan was equally impressive on the ground, rushing for 102 yards and scoring four touchdowns. Three of his scores came in the third quarter on runs of 50, 27 and 1 yard as Wadsworth pushed the lead to 62-21.

Nordonia showed fight in the second quarter, scoring three touchdowns to stay within striking distance. Running back Whapham led the Knights ground game with 77 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns. Quarterback Fakult connected with Davis on a 96-yard touchdown pass, the longest play of the night for either team.

The Knights moved the ball effectively at times, totaling 342 yards of offense. Fakult finished 12 of 29 passing for 221 yards, while the Knights rushed for 121 yards on 29 attempts.

Turnovers proved costly for Nordonia. The Knights committed two turnovers while Wadsworth played mistake-free football. The Grizzlies also dominated time of possession and totaled 483 yards of offense.

With the loss, Nordonia falls to 3-2 in the Suburban League National Conference. The Knights will look to bounce back when they host Stow-Munroe Falls on Oct. 24 for Band Senior Night. Wadsworth continues its unbeaten campaign with its sights set on a conference championship.
