Knights baseball have a tough week.

On Monday, May 6th the Knights baseball team took on the Aurora Greenmen. The Knights got out to a fast start scoring a run in the first three innings. Then 3 more runs in the 4th alone. Zach Westbrooks had a great day on the mound earning the win and 3 strikeouts in a fantastic 3 innings of work. Caleb Cunningham also pitched 3 solid innings with 5 strikeouts. On the offensive side for the Knights, Mike Hamrick had the big day, collecting 4 RBIs on 2 hits including a homerun. The knights were quiet outside of that, with only 5 people collecting a hit. This didn’t matter, as Hamrick’s 4 RBIs were the difference. The Knights have another game on Tuesday the 7th. The Knights battled the Highland Hornets. The Knights collected 5 hits but were only able to score 1 run in 7 innings. Highland’s starter had a good day. He went all 7 innings with 6 strikeouts and only 1 run.On Wednesday, they took on the Wadsworth Grizzlies. This would again be a tough game for the Knights. The Grizzlies would get off to a quick start, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 1st. They would end up scoring 12 total. The Knights ended the game with 3 hits and couldn’t get anything going. Wadsworth is a very talented team this year. The Knights look to bounce back next week. They sit at 12-9 on the season.

Lady Knights lose twice in close games.

The Lady Knights softball team battled the Stow-Munroe Falls Bulldogs on Monday. The game started off with a bang. The Lady Knights scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st. After Jordyn Dean doubled, she would score on a Sam Daniels groundout. Nina Christley would also double home a run. In total, the Knights scored 4 of their 5 runs in the first inning. The Bulldogs, however, had a huge offensive day including 5 runs in the bottom of the 1st. The Bulldogs had 12 hits and 9 runs. Grace Daniels had a tough day as the starter. She has had a good season and should definitely bounce back next start. Grace Daniels would be on the mound again against the Twinsburg Tigers on Tuesday. Daniels would go 4 innings giving no earned runs, but 2 runs did score on errors in the bottom of the 1st. The Knights would go on to score two in the 4th and two in the 7th. Both of the Daniels, Sam, and Grace would have 2 RBIs. They both hit 2-run singles. Grace in the 4th, and Sam in the 7th. The Knights fell to 5-12 on the season.

Nordonia Track teams look to win Conference Meets.

The Knights track teams competed in the Conference meet. The Preliminaries were on Tuesday May 7th. The Knights qualified many athletes for the finals. Arianna Pearson was the first qualifying in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Kayla Childs qualified in the 400 and the high jump. Eden Kereky and Emily Eterovich qualified in each of the Hurdle races. Emily also qualified in the Pole Vault with Grace Coghill. Emily jumped 9 feet 6 inches and Grace jumped 11 feet 6 inches. Sarah Shedrof (32 feet 1 inch) and Alexa Riedel (32 feet) finished 6 and 7th in the district respectively. The girls 4×800 also had the finals on Tuesday and finished 7th. They ran a time of 10 minutes and 18 seconds. On the guy’s side, Jonathan Banks and Michael Westbrooks both qualified in the 100. Banks would also make it in the 400. Dominick Stockle was the conference champion in the long jump, while also qualifying in the 200. Stockle jumped 22 feet and 3 inches. Zach Liederbach finished 7th and qualified for the finals in the 200. Brenden Jackson, Jason Lewicki, and Jahdon Wimbush qualified in the hurdles. Dominic Dasher finished 4th in the conference with a shot put throw of 143 feet and 11 inches. Lastly, the boys 4×800 team finished 5th in the conference with a time of 8 minutes and 22 seconds.
